Firstly and most importantly, create a ‘Mood Board’; A collection of images, colours, shapes, and any other graphic material that you identify with your brand. These can be images of buildings, landscapes, words, people etc. Think of it as a ‘collage of inspiration’ for your brand.

Next step is to try and create some rules for your visual identity. These are not specific rules but rather what you have chosen, in terms of shapes, colours, textures etc. Once you identify those rules, stick to them throughout your offline and online marketing. You need to be consistent with your visuals so that people can recognise your brand as easy as possible.

A very important part of your visual identity is your colour palette. Once you have defined your colour palette, choose your typeface(s). Typefaces are also a form of visual identity as they can appear pretty much everywhere in your marketing, from your website to your social media announcements to your fliers.

There are no specific rules to choosing the right typeface for your brand but there are a few key points to look for; sharp edges suggest a more rigid look while round ones suggest modernity and playfulness. Serif typefaces are usually more traditional and suggest elegance and femininity, whereas Sans-serifs are more modern and are used more commonly nowadays.

Look for typefaces that are clear and readable in both large and small sizes and make sure that if you are using more than one typeface, they all implement each other. Font Squirrel and Typotheque are great sources for a browsing and testing typefaces.

Images are a great form of visual communication, especially because of the amount of detail they can convey. For fitness related industries, images that show movement and bring out a sense of excitement, happiness and satisfaction are usually the most common ones. Knowing your audience will help you gain a clear idea of what kind of imagery to go for but a few key factors to consider when choosing the right images are the context and image treatment.

Context includes any people, animals, objects and landscapes within an image. Make sure that if you are using people in your imagery, they have the right age, race and physical condition based on your target audience. Also the environment in which the image is taken can also imply where your audience is located; a city landscape versus a beach landscape.

Image treatment is considered to be the way an image is stylised and enhanced to suggest a certain emotion. For example bright images with high contrast colours can convert excitement, whereas more pale colours can convey peace and serenity. You might want to add some shapes on the images to highlight some movement or perhaps make the image fade out to suggest calmness.

It’s important to take all these suggestions with a pinch of salt and remember to challenge your creativity. Whilst doing research and looking at competitors is the first step, being original and innovative will be the icing on the cake. Don’t be afraid to try different types of typefaces and filters, play with different colours and approaches until you get the right combination that expresses your brands character. And remember that this is a learning experience, you will always have room to improve your visual identity so make sure to research and observe from all possible resources.

Personal Branding and Personal Selling

When it comes to building your business, you will find that there are many components that factor into how it turns out. Branding and sales, however, are two cornerstones that will define your business. There are ways to go about the branding and sales of your business. The topic at hand today though? Personal branding and personal selling. To elaborate on that, personal selling refers to when businesses use sales representatives to sell their products and personal branding is the process of creating your public persona towards your audience. It is important to realize that there are both pros and cons that come with both these approaches. For that reason, the goal of this post is to give you a general understanding of these advantages and disadvantages that come with them.

Personal Branding

An important idea to understand in this whole situation is that it is always good to be able to show the human side of your business. This is simply because humans relate to other humans, and that is a big factor in helping you build trust between your company and its customers. Trust and credibility are two of the biggest advantages that can come from a well-executed personal brand. Also, it’s important to realize that your personal brand will exist whether you like it or not. It will be built based on the type of content you provide. That’s all you need to know to show you why its very necessary for you to intend on building it the right way. The way you want your audience to see you. As long as you control the narrative, inconveniences can be kept to a minimum.

Tips

If the goal is to earn trust and credibility, you have to simply be real. Don’t be afraid to show your personality. Accept your strengths and weaknesses and admit to having them. The more human you appear to be, the stronger the connection will be. From the technical standpoint, having your own website would be a great way to build your own personal brand. It allows you to be present online and gives you a platform to communicate with your audience whether through blog posts or other aspects. The more informative and beneficial your content is, the more your credibility will grow.

Disadvantages

There is a possibility that personal branding may go south, however. That’s something you must be wary of. In personal branding, getting a bad reputation or having a significant misstep is not something that can easily be dealt with. It’s something that will probably stick with you for a long time. Something that will take calculated actions to get rid of. The best counter to that? Try your best to stay out of these situations. Another thing worth mentioning is that there comes a point where that connection you build with your customers may somewhat hurt you. This happens if you’re trying to scale your business. Once your customers get accustomed to having direct contact with you, change will not sit well with them. That’s just something that comes with the territory.

Personal Selling

In terms of connection and trust with your customers, it doesn’t get any better than personal selling. There is so much to gain from two-way communication. It is mainly a great way to focus on your customers personal needs as it gives them a chance to fully express what they are happy with and what they want to see change. It also allows for instant feedback which is a plus for you. At the end of the day, it is also a great form of marketing based on the fact that adjustments can be made on the fly in order to persuade the customer.

Disadvantages

There are a couple of disadvantages that may be linked to personal selling. Firstly, it can prove to be really expensive. Between the salary of the sales representatives, the resources spent to train these representatives, and the commission and bonuses they earn, expenses may be a little higher than your liking. Personal selling is also somewhat limited in terms of the number of customers it can reach and how quickly it can reach them. That is especially true if you are reliant on it exclusively.

Ways to use Pinterest for Your Yoga Business

Ways to use Pinterest for Your Yoga Business

Do you use Pinterest for your yoga business already? If not, then you should definitely start!

What is Pinterest?

pinterest-for-your-yoga-business

Pinterest is a platform where you can save pictures from the web and organize them in so-called „boards“. Basically, you can use Pinterest in two ways: Firstly, as already said to save pictures and secondly, to get inspired on the home feed. The Pinterest algorithm is pretty clever and picks images that you might like. You can get tons of yoga inspiration for your classes. From yoga practice cheat sheets, through vinyasa flow sequences, to beautiful yoga poses in breathtaking sceneries you can find anything on Pinterest.

However, Pinterest is not just a platform for tons of inspiration on many topics. Above all, Pinterest is a search engine for images, comparable to Google. Only with the small difference that you can really lose yourself on Pinterest and time flies by fast. For example, if you’re looking for new interpretations of the sun salutation, you’ll see a pretty good feed based on your previous search after a relatively short time. The algorithm is constantly trying to figure out what you might like. There is plenty of good content waiting for you!

Pins can be „repinned“ and „liked“ directly on Pinterest. It’s completely normal to share foreign pins on your own boards. By clicking on a picture you will be directed to the source where you can read more about the topic. I think it’s clear that a pin with more than 1000 re-pins also receives many clicks on the picture. This, of course, causes the source to receive many clicks and new visitors as well.

The fact is, you don’t have to have tons of followers to succeed on Pinterest. Good photos or videos can become viral relatively easy, compared to other social networks. If that happens one thing leads to the other: The higher the reach of the photo, the more clicks on your website. As already said.

How to start? Sign up!

01. Create a Pinterest account!

To pin images from your website you need a Pinterest account. Sign up on Pinterest and make sure you fill out your profile completely: name, picture, short info, imprint and link to your website should not be missing!

02. Convert your Pinterest account into a business account!

Once you’ve created your Pinterest account, you’ll need to turn it into a Pinterest business account. The advantage of a Pinterest business account is that you have access to detailed statistics and can evaluate your Pinterest account much better. I can promise you that the change is really easy, super fast and worth it. On this page, you can get tips directly from Pinterest.

03. Use Pinterest for yourself to grow as a yoga teacher

You can be inspired daily by the great content of others. Become a better yoga teacher by using Pinterest, because there are plenty of great yoga blogs and very qualitative educational content pieces to discover. Best of all, you can save and organize everything in one place for later. Try it!

04. Create thematic boards

Before you pounce on it, I recommend you to create thematic boards. For example, for you as a yoga teacher, you can use the following topics for your boards: „Vinyasa Flows“, „Meditation Texts“, „Ayurveda“, „Yoga Inspiration“ and so on. It is important to sort your pins nicely. Never mix two different topics on one board.

05. Use Pinterest strategically to grow your business

When you start pinning, you’re already an active user. Because if you take care meticulously of your thematic boards, you and your boards get followers easily. Tell your clients about your beautiful collection of boards, so they can follow you.

Who pins more, wins

To be really strategic, I recommend you not to pin 100 pins at once for the whole week. It’s better to pin 10 pins per day and the pins should be from different topics. Your followers will get notifications for every pin.

Ain't nobody got time for that https://dannydainton.com/2017/06/03/aint-nobody-got-time-for-that/

Ain’t nobody got time for that?

Tools like Buffer or Later can help with automation, so you do not have to spend 10 times a day on Pinterest marketing. Remember: Pinterest thrives on versatility and new ideas.

06. Do you have your own yoga blog? Become a Pinterest Pro

If your goal is to drive as much traffic to your own website as possible then you should make as many, high-quality images of your blog visible on Pinterest.

First and foremost, you should make it easier for your website visitors to pin your pictures on Pinterest. Because as I said before: Pinterest is for many users a kind of bookmark on the net and your visitors would like to save your pictures. My tip: Add a pin it button to your website so every time someone moves their mouse over your picture, this button is displayed and animates your users to pin the picture.

By the way, for your website pictures, you should note the following: The optimal picture size for Pinterest is 735 × 1102 px. That means roughly: vertical format! I can assure you from my own experience and research that landscape photos on Pinterest arrive much worse and in the end less repinned. To avoid this, I recommend you to publish more vertical photos on your blog.

07. Do you enjoy producing videos? Go for it!

A few months ago Pinterest launched a new feature. Now it’s possible to pin videos as well. Since it is relatively time-consuming to produce videos, fewer people make it. This is your chance as a yoga teacher! Because it’s not that difficult to produce a yoga video, you just have to film yourself at your practice. In my experience, people react positively to yoga flow videos with timelapse.

Videos tend to be rewarded by the algorithm, which means it will be shown to more people, and so your reach will increase.

How to Find Your Target Audience and Why Its Important

Niche Marketing Over Mass Marketing?

My business is for everyone! Yeah, bet you’ve heard that before. How did it end up doing though? Normally, not great. There is a misunderstanding that often occurs when it comes to marketing your business. People tend to believe that the more people they target, the more customers they will get. That hasn’t proved to be entirely true. In fact, more often than not it is just a means to wasted resources. As Pat Flynn would say, “the riches are in the niches.” What does that mean though? It basically means that the more specific and targeted your audience is, the more likely you are to succeed. How do you find that target audience though? This is where this post may be greatly beneficial to you.

Targeting The Market

First off, you can start by asking yourself some simple questions about your business. Questions like what problems your product or service can solve, who your competition is and who your own customers are at this point. Those questions will all help you build a better general understanding of the market. That is very necessary if you want your next step to be successful.

Targeting The Customers

At this point, your next move is creating personas. Personas are fictional characters created to represent the different types of potential customers you have. They cover aspects like who, what, where, when, and why. The main goal here is to better understand your target audience in hopes of creating more content that answers to their needs. You can use this persona template to give yourself a head start. It is also important to note that you can find these templates online for free, making it a very efficient tool to use.

Importance of Finding Your Target Audience

You may ask why it’s so important to find these target audience. What gain do you have from putting in all this extra work? Well, what we do know is that everyone appreciates saving money, and at the very least, you would be saving your company money in this process. That’s because this process allows you to direct your resources towards the customers with the highest potential to buy, the customers with the biggest interest, and the customers that will be the most loyal to your brand. This all accounts for a huge efficiency boost. At the end of the day you don’t want to be spending money advertising to people that are not in need of your product or service. It also gives your company a huge opportunity to grow based on the fact that its harder to be affected by competition when you are targeting a niche market with specific customers and certain problems you are looking to solve. Additionally, knowing your customers and building that relationship with them is key to building your brand loyalty, which will then result in more repeat business.

Tips

To continue building your brand loyalty, interacting with your audience (available and potential customers) is key. You may find it really useful to create surveys every now and then that keep you updated on who you’re talking to, what they’re looking for and how you can help them. Consider including giveaways with these surveys as a means to attract more people to complete them. You may feel like it’s an unnecessary cost at this point, but it will be very much worth it down the line. Another way to keep that connection is by asking your customers for feedback with an automated email. Its always good for the customer to feel like you care about how they feel.

Tools

There are a number of tools you can find online that can really give you a head start when you’re looking for that target audience. Google analytics may be the pre-eminent option as it offers you both an audience tab and an acquisition tab. The audience tab is meant to tell you who your audience are and where they are located, while the acquisition tab focuses on showing you where your traffic is coming from. On the social media side of things, you can use Facebook insights to see where your likes are coming from. Your twitter follower’s dashboard is also great at showing you what your followers are interested in, so that may also be a great tool to use.

Monitoring Your Customers

As always, it is important that you realize that your job is not over once you’ve found what you’re looking for. It is just as important for you to maintain these customers as it was to for you to find them. Make sure you keep an eye on social activity, who is interacting and who is not, and make sure you make the requisite changes in order to keep trending positively. Your customers will appreciate the fact that you are willing to make the changes to keep them happy.

Adriene has managed to built an online community of over 5 million YouTube subscribers and 6000 thousand Instagram Followers.

Her website visitors get a clear image of who she is and what she does the moment they land on her homepage.
The look of her website emits a sense of  honesty, care and trust, with the use of a soft colour palette, light typography and a variety of personal images that are carefully edited to suggest serenity and peace – a clear connection to her yoga practise.

„People buy people and this is even more-so when it comes to selling personal training.“
(How to Built a Credible Fitness Website, according to Stanford University)

Even though her workouts are completely free, her websites end goal is to get visitors to subscribe to her weekly newsletter, where they will receive calendar updates, new tutorials, blog posts and any events/workshops that she is attending. A great way to do that is by having a primary CTA (Call to Action) at the very top of her homepage, prompting users to subscribe to her list.

Her secondary CTA is placed at the bottom of her homepage. ’Find what Feels Good’, is a platform of exclusive online classes provided by Adriene and guest instructors, where she is offering subscription packages. It is clear that this platform is not part of her primary services, but something extra that people who have already undertook her free classes could decide to continue with. What’s really great about it is that she is offering a 7-day free trial, a great way to motivate users into trying her services without being tied up to a monthly subscription.

Adriene manages to communicate her brand personality, goals and expertise through her blog posts, videos, networks and events, all clearly displayed in her website. The end result, creating a successful fitness website!

What is the conclusion?

Any type of business functioning in this day and age should be present online, especially with the variety of low cost resources available. Creating a successful website though requires a lot of research and planning before you ever start thinking about colours and fonts. Take your time to clearly define your target audience and brand goal and work from there.

Look around to see what your competitors are doing but don’t copy their websites. They might work for them but it does not guarantee you any success and could damage your business.

There is no precise method to building a successful website, but following these tips and examples will move your business towards the right path. And remember, less is more!
